HILLWALKERS BASIC FIRST AID KIT

This Kit is the minimum recommended for a small party on a one-day trip or for each individual on a longer multi day trip. These kits are described in the Spring 2001 Mountain Views with contents selected by First Aid experts. Kits (picture to follow) are supplied in bags with zips around 3 sides and 2 large clear pockets inside allowing safe visible storage of contents. The outside of the bag has a good carrying loop and shows a first aid cross and the NEMT logo. Inside, a laminated card has a contents list.

5 MEDICATED WIPES IN FOIL

Cleaning wounds, hands etc.
1 SMALL PACK OF GAUZE SWABS Cleaning wounds and wound dressing, blister prevention etc.
1 PAIR SMALL FORCEPS Removing small objects from wounds.
20 ASSORTED ELASTOPLASTS Minor cuts and small blisters.  (Beware of Elastoplast allergy.)
1 SCISSORS General use.
1 SMALL WOUND DRESSING Stopping bleeding and covering cuts and wounds.
1 LARGE WOUND DRESSING
1 PACKET BUTTERFLY SUTURES Closing cuts and lacerations when cuts are clean and dry.
1 1½ INCH CREPE BANDAGE General support, especially ankle and knee joints.  (Beware of stopping circulation.)
1 3 INCH CREPE BANDAGE
2 TRIANGULAR BANDAGES General bandaging and support.  Can be used broad or narrow-fold.
1 ROLL MICROPORE TAPE General purpose and holding dressings in place.
10 SAFETY PINS

Multiple uses.   Large pins used for pinning clothing for support.
6 PLASTIC SANDWICH BAGS Temporary burn dressings and as a cold compress on swellings if filled with snow or cold water.
