To round off our winter lecture series, and to inspire us for the summer ahead, we are delighted to welcome along locally based, award winning author, back packer and wilderness hiker, Chris Townsend.
With our lectures so far having covered the High Sierrra, an insight into land management, mountains in Nepal, and the flora and fauna of Scottish waters, we are finally back on home turf - the enjoyment of Scottish Mountains. Chris is going to tell us about the summer he dedicated to climbing all of the Munro and Tops listed in the Scottish Munro Tables - all 517 of them. Starting from Ben More in Mull and finishing, 1,700 miles later, on Ben Hope in the far north, he really does have a story to tell.
In Chris's own words: "Overall the walk was a reaffirmation that long distance walking in wild country is the most self-fulfilling activity I know. More and more I believe that this is because this is how our distant ancestors lived, for far longer than we've been settled in towns, and that walking is our natural mode of travel just as the wilds are our real home."
And there will be more! Chris has an excellent website - check him out on www.auchnarrow.demon.co.uk. As a true professional Chris will also be covering the practical concerns such as camping equipment, clothing, accessories (yes, including a First Aid Kit), cameras and last but not least - food. Surely a talk not to be missed!
