The compass; a range of observations from reverse polarity to
how accurate are they really when used on the hill?
GPS and digital mapping; a bit of background on GPS and some considerations
of what is on the market, a rapidly changing picture.
Contours, a bit of history and the range of information they can give
us.
Teaching methodology; some observations on the UK's general approach
to the teaching of navigation. And some time for questions.
Nigel has been the Head of Training at Glenmore Lodge for 16 years and been involved with mountaineering and outdoor instructing all his working life. He has participated in more than 20 expeditions worldwide including 2 trips to the West ridge of Everest although not summited. His recent interest in orienteering has made him look closely at the subject of navigation, and how it is taught.
