1481 hillforts in Scotland - but are there more to find?
Scotland's hillforts include spectacular upland monuments. The Atlas of Hillforts project sifted information on sites across Britain and Ireland , accepting 3354 confirmed examples. Dating back between one and three thousand years, not all are on hilltops - they extend from the coastal edge to c. 580m at Ben Griam Beg in Sutherland.
