In the last issue, we asked for your help with recording sightings of mountain hares. After an encouraging start, survey results have dropped off a bit and we encourage you to send in some more results. The project is a partnership between NatureScot, the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), the Mammal Society, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and the James Hutton Institute. It seeks to gather as much data as possible about mountain hare numbers across upland Scotland. You download a free mammal Mapper app and can then record sightings of mountain hares on your mobile phone when out walking. The BTO website gives full information and updated instructions on how to use the app.

We all enjoy seeing mountain hares when out in the hills. Let’s contribute to making sure that they remain a common sight.
