Hill of Fare Windfarm

Dave Windle

The planning application is with the Energy Consents Unit (Reference No. ECU 4592). Since our previous issue, Aberdeenshire Council has come out against the proposal. As the application was submitted before the proposed changes to the planning system for electricity infrastructure, this means that there will now have to be a Local Public Inquiry.

This does show the importance of the proposed changes to the planning system for new electrical infrastructure, something that the Hill of Fare Windfarm Information Group (HoFWIG) has been emphasising. Under the proposed system, workers would be on the Hill with their yellow jackets, shovels and bulldozers in the ground by now.

It is also interesting to note that the proposed community benefit is far from being tied down. This speaks to the ongoing Government consultation on the subject. Clear and binding rules are needed.
