Visitor Management and Volunteering at Mar Lodge Estate

Mar Lodge Estate is one of the most important areas for nature conservation in the British Isles. It is the largest National Nature Reserve in the UK, with more than 29,000 hectares of astonishing Scottish landscape: heather-covered moorland, Caledonian pine forest and 15 Munros. The ancient pinewoods are home to red squirrels, pine martens, crossbill and black grouse.

A wide range of landscape conservation projects are underway, including woodland regeneration, footpath repair and reducing the damage to woodland caused by red deer.

Ben Dolphin is a ranger at Mar Lodge, an outdoors writer and a past President of Ramblers Scotland. Many will know him from his blog, benvironment.org.uk. He will talk about visitor management, the ranger service and volunteering.
