Call to License Driven Grouse Moors

Dave Windle

Recently, the Scottish Raptor Study Group has launched a Parliamentary petition, calling for the licensing of driven grouse moors. NEMT circulated the information to membership in August. By the time that you read this, the petition will have closed. I hope that you did choose to sign the petition. Licensing driven grouse moors will not only help stamp out raptor persecution but should also lead to better treatment of mountain hares.

The SRSG website gives background on the need for the petition. It has been supported by both the RSPB and the SWT.

Martin Harper of the RSPB expresses it very simply. "People are still breaking the law and not enough is being done within the grouse shooting community to effect change."

There is a long way to go on this issue but we have to increase the pressure on grouse moor managers to clean up their act on all aspects of upland moor management.
