OBITUARY: JOHN HUGHES

Dave Windle

I first met John over fifteen years ago when he joined the NEMT team mapping hill tracks in the NE corner of the National Park. We wanted good quality photographs of the state of the various hill tracks and John spent many days in the field compiling a vast array of photographs. John's photos were combined with those taken by other members of the team to form a detailed record of tracks in the study area. John's enthusiasm and drive to find different and better ways of doing things shone out and provided inspiration to the whole of the team.

Later, he came back as the Council member for BOOTS Oldmeldrum hillwalkers, where he continued to contribute to the running of NEMT.

John's life was marred by episodic illness. As it came and went, it drastically affected his ability to contribute both to NEMT and to his other projects.

His enthusiasm and zest will be much missed.

Note from Sub-editor: when I took over this magazine, John gave me the most tremendous support. Frantic requests for help with photographs were always answered promptly with an amazing variety of shots, and many a chatty message. Thank you, John, you won’t be forgotten.
